Shane Douglas
"The
Franchise" Shane Douglas joined us last night on The Stranglehold
and confirmed that he will be having surgery in the very
near future to repair his torn bicep.
However,
Douglas will be in the ring this week on Nitro to team with
Perry Saturn in tag action against Eddy Guerrero and Konnan.
Due to time constraints the final minutes of our interview
were unable to air. What follows are the remaining questions
and comments with Shane Douglas...
BS:
You mentioned ECW in that conversation and obviously, a
lot has happened there since you left the company. One of
your friends, Taz, will be leaving and getting back to that
good 'ol internet, lots of rumors that you and Paul E. are
still having legal disputes over some of that back pay.
FRANCHISE:
Sure. You know, and I'll go online or on record right now
as saying I would love to sit down with Paul Heyman. Face
to face and clear the air. I mean, Paul and I did a lot
of good business together and I don't see why there's no
reason we can't sit down and resolve this issue, but as
long as there's going to be misinformation strewed about
on their side, I'd say that's probably an impossiblity of
that happening.
My
only intention here, Brian, has always been to get what's
rightfully mine. Not a penny more and to do no damage to
ECW if possible. In fact, that's the reason that it's taken
this long, and I sit and talk in the dressing room about
the money that I'm owed the wrestlers in the dressing room
look at me like I'm an idiot.
BS:
It's not a huge amount. For those of us with regular jobs
it's a decent amount, but for multi-million dollar contracts,
it's not a huge amount.
FRANCHISE:
Yeah. Right, but it's the kind of money that would've bankrupted
me had I not left ECW when I did. And then there's an ongoing
issue of copyright infringement and some other things that
absolutely need to be resolved, both for my sake and for
his company's health sake. I think it's obvious at this
point that Paul Heyman has been successful with ECW and
doesn't need Shane Douglas anymore than Shane Douglas needs
ECW, so that's not the issue here anymore.
The
issue is can two men remain friends after having done a
succesful business relation together for six years. I think
what it takes is a little honesty on both sides of the aisle
and we have been as forthright as we can on our side with
the facts. Every time I turn on the internet, I'm reading
something different and I take it with a grain of salt.
Because you know, the internet has quoted me 110 times and
I haven't said half of what I've been reported to have said
on there.
So
when I read on the internet, "Paul Heyman said this", I
take it with a grain of salt. If he did say the things that
are proported on the internet, i.e. I'm not owed but $40,00
and I've been paid weekly since I left, I can tell you categorically
on my father's grave, which I hold dearly in my heart and
holy, I have not been paid weekly.
And
I am owed more than $40,000 in my receipts and signed promissary
notes from Paul Heyman will bear that out. This shouldn't
be aired publicly, it's not the type of thing, this dirty
laundry that Paul Heyman should be talking to anyone on
the internet about. It should be Paul Heyman and Troy Martin
sitting down in a room, with lawyers if need be and apparently
must be, and resolve the issue.
You
know, if you owe, or the radio station that you work for,
Brian, owes you $10,000 for work that you've done for them
they need to pay you that money. It's not a question of
Brian's a bad guy for collecting it or trying to do damage
to the company because you're trying to collect the money
that you're owed. You're simply trying to collect money
that you're owed and earned. And that's all I want.
BS:
I'm going to need you to come in here Tuesday after you've
been in Kansas City and talk to a couple of people for me.
FRANCHISE:
(laughing) If I was good at collecting money, I wouldn't
be on here talking about Paul Heyman right now. I would've
collected mine a long time ago.
BS:
Let everyone know, because we do refer to the internet so
much and you've been vocal about some of the things that
have been incorrect or accurate out there. But, Shane Douglas
does have his own website and where can people check it
out?
FRANCHISE:
Yes, it's ShaneDouglas.com . Two guys came to me that run
the wrestlepalooza website and asked me if they could do
it and I'm very thankful that they did. First of all, I'm
not the most proficient guy when it comes to technology.
I'm just getting acclimated to computers so I could never
have the ability to do that on my own, but also I don't
have the time to do it. The one thing that we're looking
at doing, we wanted to get it up and running, which we've
done.
We've
had a nice section of visitors, numbers wise. But I want
to get to a point where we make this thing updated daily
or weekly. I want to bring the "Franchise's Forum", which
coincidentally was an article I wrote for ECW magazine for
which I've not been paid for either, there's another little
tidbit of information as far as finances go.
But,
I want to bring the "Franchise's Forum" to my website. And
in that bring some information that we sit and talk about
all the time with you guys and Between the Ropes, WCW Live,
and 1wrestling.com and just give one central place where
everyone can go if they want to find out what's up with
Shane Douglas this week. And ShaneDouglas.com is going to
be making those changes in the next few weeks and updating
and becoming a bit more up to date than it's been in the
past.
BS:
Well we will look forward to visiting again with you in
the near future, and continued success. We'll be hooking
up those links between the websites so everyone can check
things out. Shane, as always, thanks for joining us.
FRANCHISE:
You're welcome. Thanks for having me on.
BS:
And best of luck with the arm, hope everything goes well
and we'll look forward to seeing you in Kansas City.
FRANCHISE:
Excellent, thank you very much man.
